WindMorbihan still blowing strong with partners Centrale Nantes & the LHEEA!
Via sensors placed out at sea and on the coastline, the website www.windmorbihan.com provides real-time wind measurements, freely accessible to all sea lovers. Initiated in 2014 by the Compagnie des Ports du Morbihan and the Ecole Nationale de Voile et des Sports Nautiques (ENVSN), windmorbihan.com remains attractive and pursues its development.

What are the objectives?
The first objective is to
ensure the safety of the various nautical practices in this very busy area
. Thanks to real-time information, sailors can accurately assess the conditions, anticipate and adapt their navigation.
By optimising nautical practices and creating a database to feed micro weather research,
Windmorbihan
also has a regional focus.
Who uses Windmorbihan?
All those who, in one way or another, spend time out at sea: water sports enthusiasts: yachtsmen, kite-surfers, windsurfers, kayakers, etc., but also industry: oyster farmers, maritime transport, passenger ships and sea rescue organisations (SNSM, fire brigade) and more broadly, coastal tourists who are interested in beach weather. Windmorbihan continues to gain in popularity, as shown by its constantly rising visitor numbers.
In 2020 Windmorbihan passed the one million mark in terms of visits over twelve months and 2021 looks set to follow suit with 133,000 visits already in May
What's new for the summer of 2021?
Windmorbihan
is not stopping there and is pursuing its development with
2 new sensors and a new web version
. In spring, a sensor was installed on Arz island. A central point in the Gulf of Morbihan, it provides information on the specificities of this exceptional body of water. Then in June, it was the turn of Groix island, bringing the number of Windmorbihan wind sensors to 10! This sensor, ideally placed to the west of Groix, effectively completes the measurements of the Kerroch sensor for the Lorient water body. It will also be the first to announce the arrival of turbulent weather patterns.
The new web version completes the real time with wind and tide forecasts.
Internet users can thus follow the real conditions, know what to expect and compare the forecasts with the observations
. With new background maps,
Windmorbihan
pursues its objective to provide a better understanding and anticipation of weather conditions.
www.windmorbihan.com
now offers wind forecasts
What's Windmorbihan's secret?
First of all, Windmorbihan meets a need. Users of the sea, whether professional or recreational, are looking to optimise their movements and trips out at sea. Real-time information allows this adaptation, especially as the choice of reliable measurement has been made by selecting exceptional sites that are particularly well exposed. In addition, a great deal of work has been done on the ergonomics of the website to make it as simple and intuitive to use as possible. Finally, Windmorbihan is the result of a collaboration between many partners with complementary expertise.
Who are the partners?
Windmorbihan was instigated by the Compagnie des Ports du Morbihan and the Ecole Nationale de Voile et des Sports Nautiques (ENVSN). The Direction Interrégionale de la Mer and Centrale Nantes have joined this collaboration
. The expertise and support of these partners are essential to the success of the project. Many partners also support this project: Lorient Agglomération, Sellor, Golfe du Morbihan Vannes Tourisme, Golfe du Morbihan Vannes Agglomération as well as the companies Tahé Outdoors, Fouilleul Industrie, Armorique Diffusion, April marine assurance and Bénéat-Chauvel real estate.
