SCAN’18 Seminar held in Nantes

SCAN'18 is an urban architectural design seminar, during which the Urban Architecture Nantes Research Centre (AAU) hosted Tomas DORTA, a researcher from Montreal. Tomas DORTA works with CRENAU the Nantes-based AAU team.

from October 24, 2018 to October 26, 2018

The 8th edition of SCAN'18 was organised by AAU under the aegis of ARCAN (Research Association for Digital Architectural Design) and held at Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Nantes (ensa Nantes). The purpose of the seminar was to deal with immersion-emersion and its contributions to the design of architectural and urban projects.
Professor Tomas Dorta, University of Montreal, and founder of the design research laboratory Hybridlab, led a workshop on the theme: "Co-design in social virtual reality with HYVE-3D".

The objective of this workshop was to introduce participants to the co-design approach using a social virtual reality system (without glasses): the Hyve-3D™ (Hybrid Virtual Environment 3D). The system allows multiple users to co-design, either locally or remotely, using 3D sketches and textured and imported 3D geometries, photogrammetries and point clouds.  In co-design, participants generate ideas together for predefined projects (ideation) instead of individually (individual design that will be shared with other individuals at a later stage of the project).
