Following the 2019 elections, Nicolas MOËS, Professor at Centrale Nantes and the Research Institute in Civil and Mechanical Engineering (CNRS/Centrale Nantes/University of Nantes) joins the
Académie des sciences
.
Recipient of a CNRS silver medal in 2014, of ERC funding in 2017, and the 2019 ONERA Award for Mechanical Sciences for Aeronautics and Aerospace, Professor Nicolas MOËS is also a senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France.
His areas of research include: damage, breakage, contact, extended finite elements (X-FEM), Thick level set (TLS) approach, the inequality level-set approach (ILS). He teaches the following disciplines: numerical mechanics, extended finite elements (X-FEM), configurational mechanics.

L'Académie des sciences
Founded in 1666, l'Académie des sciences is an assembly of scientists, chosen among the most eminent French and international experts. Its role is to act as an expert advisory body with regard to the political, ethical and societal challenges posed by science.
