Prof. Alain Bernard at the National Academy of Technologies of France

Prof. Alain Bernard, of Centrale Nantes, and head of research at the Laboratory of Digital Science of Nantes (LS2N), has been appointed a Fellow of the National Academy of Technologies of France.

Every year, the Academy appoints new members to broaden or deepen its field of reflection and action, as part of a rigorous recruitment process, which takes into account the excellence of individuals and the influence of their work in Europe and internationally.
On 5 December 2018, the plenary assembly elected sixteen new members, bringing the number of fellows to 330.

Prof Alain BERNARD is one of the pioneers of Rapid Prototyping in France. In 1991, he founded the CREATE rapid prototyping and reverse engineering platform at Ecole Centrale Paris. Since 1994, Prof. A. Bernard has been the vice-president of AFPR (French Rapid Prototyping Association) and its representative in GARPA (Global Alliance of Rapid Prototyping Associations). He has been scientific adviser at the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research since 2003. He was awarded, by the RP community, the “Academic Career Award” during the VRAP conference in 2009 in Leiria.

The National Academy of Technologies of France was established in 2000 to undertake analyses, frame proposals and issue advice on questions relating to technology and its interaction with society. Drawing on the diverse expertise of its 330 members, the Academy promotes innovation that serves the needs of society, in accordance with its motto: "Sharing reasoned, chosen progress."
