Nicolas MOËS appointed senior member of the 'Institut Universitaire de France'
Centrale Nantes Professor Nicolas MOËS was appointed a senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France on 1 October 2018, for a period of five years.

Recipient of a CNRS silver medal* in 2014 and of
ERC funding
in 2017, Professor Nicolas MOËS receives further support and encouragement for his research work via his appointment as a senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France.
Areas of research: damage, breakage, contact, extended finite elements (X-FEM), Thick level set (TLS) approach, the inequality level-set approach (ILS).
Disciplines taught: numerical mechanics, extended finite elements (X-FEM), configurational mechanics.
The role of the
Institut Universitaire de France
is to foster the development of high-level research in universities and to reinforce interdisciplinarity, by pursuing three objectives:
Encourage institutions and research faculty to achieve excellence in research, with the positive consequences that can be expected for teaching, the training of young researchers and, more generally, the dissemination of knowledge.
Contribute to bringing more women into the research sector.
Contribute to a balanced distribution of university research in the country, and therefore to a policy of national scientific networking.
