The school's decision to commit to a sustainable development approach dates back to 2006. A commission was set up to put forward measures to improve campus management (buildings, energy, etc.), and monitor and assess action undertaken. This work has resulted in the implementation (completed or still in progress) of new procedures (waste management, postal services), renovation and/or development (energy), etc.
The law (Article 55 of the Grenelle 1 law of 3 August 2009) requires all higher education establishments to implement a Sustainable Development approach (economic, societal and environmental dimensions) as part of the "Plan Vert". The Conférence des Grandes Ecoles has set up a reference framework for the implementation of this plan with a view to continuous improvement. Five areas were identified:
Strategy and governance,
Teaching and training,
Research,
Environmental management,
Social policy and regional presence.
