In the 2020 THE University Impact Rankings out today, Centrale Nantes is ranked among the 300 best universities in the world for its economic and social impact. This second edition includes more than 766 institutions in 85 countries.
Centrale Nantes is positioned in 5th place out of only 16 French institutions present. To join this select group, institutions are assessed by Times Higher Education against the 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations.
Centrale Nantes performed well on six goals in particular:
Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, employment and decent work for all (39th in the world);
Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts (62nd);
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all (top 200);
Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns (top 200);
Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialization and foster innovation (top 200);
Reduce inequality within and among countries (top 200)
The school's presence in this ranking reflects our commitment to the climate challenges: 68% of compulsory courses at Centrale Nantes address environmental issues, and 64% cover climate and energy issues. Centrale Nantes also opened a project-based specialisation in 2019-2020: eleven students worked for seven months on the theme of "Carbon Neutrality" on campus in order to quantify the school's carbon impact.
Based on our firm belief that training, research and innovation are essential for understanding the phenomena and identifying possible solutions, the school is committed not only to supporting sustainable development goals through our teaching, research and knowledge transfer, but also to embodying these goals in our internal practices, policies and procedures.
